When I was treading up the path at 9:00 am, I didn’t feel particularly nervous and I had mixed thoughts on what it would be like. Upon entering the office, I was shown around and given a brief introduction on what the company does. This filled me in on anything I hadn’t picked up on whilst looking up the company prior to coming. It was an effective, cheerful introduction that was welcomed in an unfamiliar environment.
Soon enough I was shown where I would be working and was given my first task. I was stationed on a Mac which proved difficult to operate since I hadn’t used one previously. A few Internet tutorials later and I had grown accustom to the very confusing, supposedly simplified keyboard and layout. The first task consisted of editing a client’s image for a website. I grasped the program relatively quickly and my morale was kept high with the friendly team complimenting my work. The finished piece received positive feedback and I departed soon after for a well-earned lunch.
In the afternoon, I was given the task of updating the apt website. This was great because I was actually contributing to something important rather than making tea – which I didn’t do once throughout the week. The afternoon came to a pleasant end when I left at 5:00 pm. My mixed thoughts about the whole work experience process had vanished as I had enjoyed myself and had found the tasks challenging enough but also rewarding.
Throughout the rest of the week my good experience was built on more and more. The height of the experience for me was found in designing buttons for the website. I found this extremely rewarding and spent a day and half on them. It felt like a marvelous achievement to complete each one and to know that my work would be featured on the apt website, representing their work for each client.
Concluding, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which featured a huge variety of work. In apt, I found exactly what I was looking for in a work experience placement – it was a week that I thought nobody would offer; you were basically a member of the team and were relied on to perform tasks which would ultimately alter important parts of the company such as the website.
